BDP are design architects for this £960m scheme in Liverpool, one of the largest construction projects in the UK. Other architects working within the project include Wilkinson Eyre and CZWG Architects.

How we became involved.

We had previously worked with BDP project architect Chris Lloyd on the Wooldale Centre for Learning in Northampton. This Kajima PFI became famous/infamous as a project where everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. Perhaps on the basis that if we could survive Wooldale, we could survive anything, Chris signed us up for Paradise Street.

Grosvenor Developments are reshaping the centre of Liverpool with this mixed-use commercial scheme, due to be complete for the 2008 City of Culture celebrations. Laing O'Rourke are currently on site.

The principal emphasis as far at the ironmongery is concerned is upon value for money and durability. In fact we have been interviewed by and submitted samples and warranties to Grosvenor Estates, as well as to BDP. All products in our specification carry 25 year guarantees. Grosvenor Developments had particular issues with ironmongery components which fail regularly such as door stops, door closers and door selectors and have applied stringent criteria before accepting any product onto Paradise Street.

As with most commercial schemes, there are a mix of timber, steel, aluminium and glass doors where the same visible ironmongery will be required throughout. As a matter of course our scheduler, Scott Brown, will specify slim locks to suit narrow door stiles, offset cylinder barrels, long-length fixings for thick doors, special mountings for glass and W20 sections etc…

All drawings, images, warranties and the ironmongery schedules themselves have been sent and delivered electronically. There is no paper communication on this scheme.
