Project: Carlton Drive, Putney
Architect: Fielden Clegg Bradley
Fielden Clegg Bradley are project architects for this large residential scheme in south London for private clients. Part new-build, part restoration with original retained stone facades the project value is around £11m. Wates are currently on site.
How we became involved. Fielden Clegg Bradley have been able to give us quite a lot of work in recent years. Beginning with their prize-winning and much-garlanded Beaufort Court scheme which we won because we were at the time working on another project for Peabody Estates, BedZed for Bill Dunster. The requirement for BedZed was for sustainable UK manufactured carbon-free door furniture and our ability to source such items afforded as the opportunity to supply Beaufort Court.
At Carlton Drive we were invited to submit samples during the design stage.
Many […most] of our work comes from early consultation with the project architect. Samples of lever handles together with some indication of cost are offered and a selection made. Following agreement to the lever handle / knob design all of the other components, the hinges, locks, signs and fittings become part of the overall order. Our skills in co-ordinating these other elements, in ensuring that for example key suiting works satisfactory, that doors close & latch properly and go on doing so for the lifespan of the building. That little things like ensuring the cylinder is flush with the escutcheon and does not project too much or worse, is sunken into the euro piercing are all just taken as a given.
